LOTTE BERK EXERCISES What are they? The exercises are based on modern dance, yoga and physiotherapy. They are designed to achieve a lean, supple and toned look by: · stretching and shaping the body · strengthening the abdominal muscles · toning the thighs and bottom · improving mobility and flexibility · increasing stamina and co-ordination for other sports The stomach exercises are particularly effective in strengthening the deep stabilizing muscles which support the spine and flatten the stomach. All the exercises are done on carpet, either standing, sitting or lying down. A ballet barre is often used for support and mirrors enable teachers and participants to check their movements. Who are they for? Most classes are of mixed levels and open to anyone over the age of 16. There is a maximum of 10 people to a class, but 6 to 8 is usual. Age, fitness and shape is not important, and everyone works at their own pace within a class, which is taken by an experienced teacher. Best results are achieved by regular attendance two or three times a week. If you have not exercised recently, or have had a recent injury or surgery, please check with your doctor before starting classes. Do not start exercising in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, or before your post-natal check-up.
